The trip Mary Ann and I took with Jon as our guide was absolutely splendid. He is so well informed. He has so many exceptional stories. And he took us to places I would never have imagined we would see.
On top of that, upon arrival (after a reunion with my first cousins in Scotland) I told him that one of my cousins said his uncle died at Somme and could I find him. I thought it was a preposterous request. But I hadn’t met Jon at that point so I didn’t know that he’s the sort of person who can make anything happen. Unbelievably Jon dug into the records, found the data and took us to the gravesite, as well as the precise place where the man had been wounded and ultimately died. And he found the military report from 1915 that gave all the details of what happened that day.
I share this with you to let you know how seriously Jon takes this job. And the lengths he will go to in order to make the experience unforgettable for the people he’s guiding. Mary Ann and I enjoyed our three days with Jon and I’ve come away a little wiser and a lot better informed and feeling very very proud of Canada. I would recommend Jon very highly.
